Probiotics & Digestive Health

The process of digestion begins in the mouth and ends in the colon. This complex activity requires many chemicals to fully complete. Firstly natural stomach acids are needed to break down proteins and acidify major minerals in order for them to be absorbed at the cellular level. These acids also stimulate the production of chemical compounds called enzymes, which are needed to break down carbohydrates, proteins, and even fats. If these acids and enzymes are deficient or missing, digestion is compromised and the symptoms of indigestion such as gas, bloating, heartburn, acid reflux, and constipation are the result.

Our first duty then is to ensure that the stomach is producing enough gastric acid to get the process going; stomach acid can become depleted over time due to a diet of over-processed foods. This is why digestive disturbances often get worse with age. A supplement that provides both gastric acid stimulants as well as the raw materials to build specific enzymes can virtually eliminate most digestive disturbances in a matter of days.

Once this has been addressed then we look to the lower digestive system namely the colon. The healthy colon needs beneficial bacteria in order to function properly. Called probiotics, these “bugs” are vital to lower intestinal health and can prevent constipation and other bowel disturbances. By combing a multi-faceted enzyme formula that also contains gastric acid stimulants together with a powerful probiotic, we can fully address all digestive and elimination issues from the beginning of the digestive process all the way to the end. Next month we will have articles on Nutrition Myths so check back and make sure to watch my latest video Exposing Nutrition Myths Part 2 of 2 I talk about some of the issues in this article.
