How to Choose a Calcium Supplement

You may have heard about the concerns over taking calcium supplements and their buildup in the body. This only occurs when the wrong form of calcium is ingested. In order for calcium to be absorbed and not stored it must firstly be acidic with a pH of 5.0 or lower. Next the best calcium supplement will also have the known trace minerals for absorption and transport throughout the body. These should include boron, manganese, copper, zinc, and strontium. There should also be some magnesium as this is not only an essential mineral but compliments calcium in the body.

The best calcium supplement and the best magnesium supplement would include both in a 2 to 1 ratio, calcium/magnesium. If all of these factors are present clinical studies have shown that this is the best calcium for osteoporosis because of the transport of calcium specifically back to the bone. The calcium supplement we developed has been shown to not only halt bone loss but to actually increase bone density. Of course we would also want to chelate the calcium and magnesium to lower the pH, thereby further enhancing absorption. Check back next month for more info on magnesium supplements and how to choose the right one for you.
